Given how challenging the RC213V is this year, nobody anticipated Marini to finish eighth in the standings again. After all, Marc Marquez, the six-time MotoGP champion, was only able to finish on the podium once on this machine last year, and he finished the season far behind Marini in 14th place overall.

However, the year Marini's teammate, 2020 world champion Joaan Mir, has had on the other side of the garage is equally significant to his dismal start.

Mir finished just six of the twenty grand prix inside the points last year, making him a crasher on Sundays already three times in 2024. In regards to the Saturday sprints, Mir has only managed one point in the entire MotoGP season and a half under the new format.
