John Collins joins us this time from the Fly Fishing and Wingshooting Expo and shows us one of his favorite soft hackle patterns for spring. The Little Black Stone is a common fly here in my area with a fairly long hatch time once the weather breaks. Some people watch for the crocus' to start popping up through the ground as their first sign of spring. For me I watch for the Little Black Stones.
John Created this fly in his style of tying using ultra wire inside a piece of stretch tubing. Another great thing about this pattern is it allows you to use up the head feathers on that ringneck skin you have laying around and thought you had no use for.
If you're a soft hackle guy this fly should be part of your early spring fly box. Give it a try and go to our website to find the materials needed to tie this pattern. Thanks for watching. -Shawn
