How to properly grate Parmesan cheese at home for most recipes? Here is why it matters, and the simple straightforward technique to grating your own hard Italian cheeses at home. Unlike grocery store brands, you can ensure the quality cheese you want, like Parmigiano Reggiano or Grana Padano.

Recipe Ingredients:
Parmigiano Reggiano or Grana Padano

1. With a sturdy knife, cube the cheese into 1/2 to 1/4 inch pieces. Be sure to cut off the rind and save for future use.
2. Add cheese cubes to a processor fitted with a steel blade. Be sure not to overload the processor, you may need to do more than one batch.
3. Pulse the cubes 2-3 times then turn the machine on for approximately a minute.
4. Cheese should be a desired fine pebbly texture. Transfer grated cheese to a storage container and enjoy in about a week.
