#alaska #familycamping #overland #adventure Join us for our short series on this Alaska overland adventure . Haines Alaska is our destination for this truck camping family adventure. Episode one of 2, in this beautiful land of the eagles.
We Start our overland Journey in our home town of Atlin, BC, Canada and make our way on the Alaska highway through Whitehorse, Haines Junction, Kluane National Park and Haines pass, to the beautiful coastal community of Haines Alaska. If you don't know what to do in Haines Alaska, make sure to tag along on our adventure to get some insider tips and activity suggestions. We're here in Haines Alaska for a few days, to look for some 4x4 tracks we haven't discovered yet. Haines is one of our favourite towns in the area, both as a family and as a couple. So much that we got married here some 14 years ago! Justin can't wait to go fishing, so first off, we go fishing at the point by Chilkat sate park. Eagles lurk on a fish that got caught by the tide going out, and it gets swooped away by one of two eagles battling, right in front of us. What an epic experience to come to Haines, for an overland alaska experience. We didn't catch any fish, but we go on the hunt for an eagle's nest and then find a spot to camp at Chilkoot lake. We could go wild camp, but we decide to go to Chilkoot lake, which is where we got married back all those years ago. Not much has changed. We make fish and chips for dinner with some fish we buy from the local store downtown Haines. Maybe tomorrow we can catch our own fish. We will try again, this time in the Haines harbour, where we are usually successfull at catching something. Our Tepui rooftop tent keeps us cozy and safe at night at the beautiful campsite. The Rooftop tent keeps us high above the bears that are notorious for hanging out here around Chilkoot lake and the Chilkoot River to fish for salmon. Thankfully no bear can get to us in our Rooftop tent. Road tripping, Truck camping or Overlanding, whatever you want to call it, is a lot more comfy in our Ford f250 as there is more room for Justin. We did not intend to take this big beast of a truck, but our Toyota broke down, or I should say, Sprung a leak, so we had to return home and change over all our overland camping gear from the Toyota to the Ford. Thankfully we were still able to make it out to Haines, Alaska.
Stay tuned for next week's episode where we dig down into the mud as we get caught on a steep, muddy, narrow track where we cannot turn around so have to commit. It takes us into the high country. What a find.
