We found an abandoned mine shaft in the remote Yukon (wait till you see inside😱) + We have some news!
The area in the remote Yukon that we are exploring this weekend is especially nice because this network of tracks keeps us mostly above tree line.
Last year, we came here in the spring. we were flabbergasted to find this abandoned mine shaft in the middle of nowhere. So far in remote Yukon. Unfortunately, then,, it was plugged with ice and we could not go very far in it.
We hope now, coming back in the fall, the ice plug will be gone, and we can actually go inside the abandoned mine shaft.
Last time we came exploring here with Blue steel, our F250. We got stuck a few times because of the spring washouts. The bigger creek crossings were treacherous to pass also.
This time, we are coming back with our Adventure mobile the Toyota, and we have our friend Kodey and his daughter join us for this adventure.

We just love these mountain tracks, it is absolutely phenomenal, especially here in this remote area in the Yukon. The tracks are not technically very hard, but it’s steep and narrow, and the very remote location, means that you have to consider your risktaking carefully. Going together with others, and being able to tow each other out, it a great and safe way of enjoying the backcountry here.

we are making our camp Pretty high this time, at about 2000 meters
the kids Justin and Kodey’s daughter Naomi picked the camp spot by that little pond
not much to protect from the wind, but hey, if the kids are enthusiastic about that high elevation camp then sure no problem

the track was absolutely beautiful but interesting, it was pretty narrow, tracks by side besides and quads. It was pretty narrow and pretty steep with some difficult parts where
actually we had some difficult time passing a washed out creek.

It was a fantastic adventure. What an amazing sight to find this abandoned mine drift while exploring the remote Yukon. It's still hard to believe.
This mine shaft was used for mining in the 90’s
there is a set of trail tracks at the bottom as you can see.
It is flooded with about 18 inch of water as you can see
and has been filling up with gravel.
now we are able to go much farther into the drift
slowly there is more and more gravel, until it gets too plugged to continue
there is a special atmosphere there because the track allows us to go so high
also, which is not very common, the track goes right to a glacier. so it goes to one of the smallest glaciers around. there is not much left of it, but it is not very coming to have tracks go right to a glacier and that makes this place even more unique.

We also have an update for you at the end.
