In this short video, I'll quickly go over the process I took to keep my ducklings clean. I had been experiencing some issues with the run being smelly and getting nasty. I started searching and read a lot of good things about the deep litter method for duck coops/runs. I'm 4 days into this method and so far the smell is much better and it is overall much lower maintenance!

The deep litter method is simply a method to maintain a substrate in duck/chicken coops using a carbon/nitrogen ratio. Carbon will be your base (pine shavings in my case) and nitrogen is your duck poop and maybe some spilled duck food here and there. The idea is that as long as you keep a correct ratio here (more carbon than nitrogen is ideal) then you can create a deep layer of bedding that composts with the duck poop, and there will be minimal smell! You need to remove the compost maybe 3 times a year depending on the size of your run. I will probably have to do it more often since my run is small.
