seamagic3 asked about the bedding material that we use in the coop for the chickens and ducks. He has Runner ducks and uses straw bedding. He is concerned about mold and spores. We use wood chips6 inches deep over a gravel base. I discuss aspergillosis which is a concern for all birds and is not an uncommon cause of respiratory disease in ducks. We have one duck that just began to cough and he is the only duck that has shown any indication of an infection.

Important factors to manage include bedding choice (managing), air circulation, humidity, temperature, moisture, daylight exposure, nutrition and stress management.

Mold is microscopic fungi
Grow from spores (3-40 microns) (Hair is 125 microns wide)
