There are a number of private loco-owning groups based at the SVR, and what they all want is to see their particular engine in steam, hauling services along the line. Usually, getting to that point requires many years of fundraising, expert engineering skills and lots of hard slog.

The dream is soon to come true for the Stanier Mogul Fund. Its locomotive will be the sole survivor of its class, and will re-appear as No. 13268, the original number it carried when it left the works at Crewe in 1934.
