A screw doesn’t hold very well in end grain. On this project I decided to use screw inserts at the top of the table leg. Because white oak is very dense and hard I drilled the hole just a little smaller than the screw inserts. I then used an Epoxy and sawdust mixture to help secure the inserts in place.
