Corona Arch, Musselman Arch, Shafer Pass & Mesa Arch - Moab, Utah

This is a little different than my normal video. Sort of. This isn't really a destination/trail. This is just a video of a day during our recent trip to Moab, Utah. I've wanted to check out Corona Arch for a while now, and this was the time. We got up early - highly advised because of all the crowds. Corona Arch is a well known hike. I'd almost say it's the second most famous arch in Utah, behind Delicate Arch. The hike to Corona Arch is fairly straightforward. A few miles out and back and a little bit of elevation gain. It's very easy to follow the trail. When it gets onto the slickrock, there are painted dots to lead the way. And soon enough, there you are. Corona arch is off in the distance....and it is absolutely massive. Along the way, you pass by Bowtie Arch; an interesting hole in the canyon wall to your left. But Corona Arch is the main course, and it delivers. Go early. The trail is easily accessible off Potash Road, with a short hike and big pay off.

It's worth it.

After checking out Corona Arch, Tina wanted me to see Potash Road up to Shafer Pass. After the potash ponds, you enter into Canyonlands National Park. The roads aren't too bad, but I would recommend a vehicle made for off roading. We attempted this in the Tacoma in winter a few years ago, but the snow made the roads terrifying and impassable.

On the way to Shafer Pass, we made a quick detour to Musselman Arch. This is accessed along White Rim Road (I think) and a permit is required, so plan ahead. Musselman Arch was amazing and worth the trip.

Then it was back to business to do the climb up Shafer Pass. Shafer Pass is intimidating, but not actually that bad. And it is absolutely mind blowing. In good conditions, most any truck or jeep or SUV will make it, but take that for what it's worth; I'm not an ATV expert. But nothing here made me nervous.

At the top, we checked out some overlooks and finally Mesa Arch. Mesa Arch is an easy to access, extremely popular photo op in Canyonlands National Park. It's worth the short trip for the picture, but don't expect any peace and quiet.

Overall, day 1 at Moab was amazing. Day 2 as well...but that's another video.
