This is part of a series on the Magician Archetype by the Neo-Jungian analyst and creator of the King Warrior Magician Lover system, Dr. Robert Moore, in his lecture on "Psychopathology and the Magician.” Recorded in 1989, we have digitally restored and enhanced the original audio for a better listening experience, although the quality is still lacking in parts. Nevertheless, some of the points discussed are even more relevant today than they were when it was recorded - a testament to the insight of Dr. Moore.

In this lecture, Dr. Robert Moore talks about:

Literalism and exaggeration as forms of pathology when the magician archetype is not functioning properly.

The consequences of literalism and simplification, such as oversimplifying complex issues and scapegoating.

The detrimental impact of tribalism in religion and the tendency towards fundamentalism in relation to the magician archetype's dysfunction.

The concept of denial, linking it to a lack of acknowledgment of warrior energy and the need for balance between magician and warrior archetypes, delving into the role of the collective unconscious, Jungian psychology, and the archetypal self as observable structures in the psyche.

"The magician in the psyche is the aspect of the psyche which has to do with accurate, subtle, adequate interpretation. When it's not working, say you're trying to function adequately as a warrior, you're going to know some things are going on that you need to attend to, and you probably know you need to fight, but you won't be able to figure out just what or who or what it's going to take or where you should attack." - Dr Robert L. Moore (1942 - 2016)
