In this video I show you how I replaced this range hood and exposed vent pipe with a microwave hung from an open concept shelf.

If you are venting a microwave, venting it outside is ideal but if the installation is like this one (in the middle of the house) the microwave can be "self venting". Check your device manuals and local codes for requirements of installation.
