Hi Guys, welcome to the next episode of "MATES, WEIGHTS & MENTAL STATES".

Now my intentions for this series is to give you an insight as to the type of stuff me and my mates talk about, sometimes topical, sometimes not (almost always workout related). However the bigger picture is to give me and my mates (and anyone else who wants to join me) and opportunity to get together and TALK.

Ever since I was a at school, I think that the people I confided in most, looked up to and turned to for advice were my mates. I would wager that for a lot of men this is also the case. So, in a big way, your mates are and always will be your SUPPORT SYSTEM.

Although the sad thing is that men often throw themselves at work / family stuff and slowly drift apart from their mates and the people they trust, support and need. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as we can find other support systems (wives, colleagues etc) but can mean that our learned way to gain support isn't as easily accessible as it once was.

In this video, we cover (amongst other things): LIFTING LONGEVITY

FEATURING: Keith Tsang
“Mid 40’s Dad trying to fight off middle aged Spread”
“Gainz are hard to come by these days” - Presses 50kg DB for reps
“Avoiding squats and deadlifts as lower back can’t handle it these days” - Leg presses 300kg for reps

Topics Discussed:
1. Don’t lift above 90% 1RM - to be as safe as possible when going heavy
2. Match or better 2:1 ratio - Pull / Posterior Chain : Push work
3. Don’t pull from floor more than 1 a week - Other days, pull off blocks / racks, or alternative bars
4. Concurrent Periodisation - Maintain intensity / specificity / high loads but vary bars / grip / ROM
5. Light work for connective Tissue - Very high reps for increased blood flow and recovery / pump
6. Stretch / Recovery Days - Dedicated days to stretch / iron out niggles
7. De-loads - Intra-Training Block vs Every Nth Week vs Intuitive De-loads
8. Lifting Equipment - Belt, wrist wraps, straps, knee sleeves, chalk
9. Calisthenics - Harder to grind out reps. Generally Self limiting. Easier on the joints?
10. Managing stress? - goes hand in hand with recovery / longevity
11. Keeping the engine going - Staying active is key to maintain strength and flexibility

I would love to hear if you have had any experience with LIFTING FOR LONGEVITY or whether you have suggestions for how to remain healthy and active throughout the years 📝👍🏻😊

There are more videos to come in the "MATES, WEIGHTS & MENTAL STATES" series. Stay tuned 📺
