The 1960's luxury touring coach market in the UK was quite a competitive one. Lots of makes, models, styles and designs. There were two major coach builders: Plaxton and Duple.

Plaxton had already introduced their Panorama in the mid-1960s, while Duple had their more dated-looking Bella Range.

In order to address this imbalance, Duple created the Viceroy in 1966, a panoramic-styled coach that could compete with the Plaxton Panorama.

Sales were not as good as they could have been, and parts of the coach still look dated, so Duple then hired an industrial designer to update the Viceroy.

While more modern looking, the Viceroy still lagged the Panorama in sales, and in 1972, production came to an end, being replaced by the Duple Dominant.

See and hear the story of this very interesting coach, the Duple Viceroy!
