The key to many projects is to be flexible. This project didn’t start out as a clock, but like many projects, changes are made along the way.
I start with scrap wood from a pallet and glue it into a blank. The finished size of the circle is going to be about 16 inches in diameter. After the glue dried, it was time to affix the artwork and get the router going. I use a couple of bits to remove the bulk of material. Followed by my rotozip tool and a spiral bit to get into the smaller detail. After the remnants of the artwork were removed, I place a few pieces of tape over some of the knots and defects in the surface that would be difficult to remove the paint overspray. I paint the alien with a gloss black spray paint and sand the surface to remove the over spray. After cutting the outer edge I use a portion of an ogee bit to create a random rough edge. The edge is painted and sanded as well. For the finish, I use a rusty vinegar water mix to age the wood. For some reason, the front surface did not age as expected so I didn’t end up with the aged grey tone that you will see on the back surface. Oh well. Finished with 2 coats of polyurethane. To hang the clock I glued on spacers, one of which has an angled cut out section that will set onto the wall hanger. The spacers were used after I realized my first attempt using a key hole slot was not going to work due to the fact that the clock mechanism sat proud of the back surface.

I hope you enjoy this build. As always, be safe when using tools. You are responsible for your own safety.
