(Episode 3 of 3)

The Islands Project is a series of short films inspired by three islands that can be found resting quietly in two of the most beautiful areas in Scotland, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, and the Beinn Eighe and Loch Maree Islands National Park and Nature Reserve.

Rarely visited, these islands are rife with history, folklore and tales from long ago.

In this episode I return to Loch Lomond and end our journey at the stronghold of Clan MacFarlane, the island known as Inveruglas.

The ruins of a castle are still present on the isle, hidden from onlookers on the mainland by a range of mature trees, one of which is a beautiful yew tree. The castle was destroyed in the seventeenth century by Oliver Cromwell's troops.

My intention in making this series was simple. Visit three islands and film the journey. My aim then was to create a piece of music to accompany the footage and write a few words about my visit.

The Brittish Isles are home to many beautiful and ancient places, but for me, Scotland is a place like no other. There is magic in the highlands for those willing to keep an eye open for it. I hope you enjoy watching these films as much as I enjoyed making them.

ISLAND

The island is the mountain top
The island is the heart
The island is the ending
But the end is just the start.
