Since our trip to Sorrento, Italy where I and Sadie tasted this drink for the first time. We were surprised to find out that Sorrento is home to the best limoncello, and one of the reasons was because of the superior large lemons that grow in the region.

It was truly the best liquour I had ever tasted, and since coming back home to the UK, I longed for the drink that I had when I was away. After purchasing many brands and even some imports, they were not as good. The flavour and aroma were missing and they were a lot sweeter than the original. I then got creative with various recipes and made up my own. Now I can proudly say that this is the real thing. Its worth noting that you should look for the best quality ingredients that you can find, this will only give you a better result. This recipe is an authentic Italian recipe, the only difference is that usually stronger alcohol is used instead of vodka but strong alcohol is harder to get hold of for most people, and it is not needed because once you have adjusted the recipe to calculate the alcohol percentage the drink will taste the same. I know this because when I had my trip to Italy I tried many variations of homemade limoncello and found that this version tasted the same.

Limoncello is known as an aperitif which is a pallete cleanser that is commonly served before or after a meal. Making this drink usually takes around 1-3 weeks, if you are willing to go to full term, the result will be better as it matures with age. If possible try get unwaxed organic lemons, this is because the vodka will dissolve the wax, and you will be drinking it. On top of that you don't really want to be drinking pesticides! We have our own lemon tree so do not have that worry. We take you through the processs of making your very own liquour, from peeling your lemon skin to the finished alcohol.

The same process can be repeated for other types of fruity cello variations aswell, last year we made cherrycello which was made with whole cherries and vodka.
