Climbing Whiteface Mountain via Whiteface Brook aka Lake Placid Slide because it overlooks the beautiful lake placid for the entire climb! I went into this hike with doing very little research other than knowing that people do it. It had rained a ton the days leading up to this beautiful day and the water flow was insane. We opted to stay out of the drainage and stay in the woods to bushwhack up to the base of the slide. As we started to see the slide through the woods we didn’t see a way onto the slide because it was too wet and slippery so we continue to bushwhack up to the right side.. that was a horrible idea and I highly advise that if you do Lake Placid Slide when you get near the slide to cross the drainage to the left side if you cannot get on the slide because it’s too wet. You will get Cliffed out And have to backtrack back down the mountain to climb across the drainage to the other side. It happened to us. So the most important advice I can give you for this entire blog is to stay left of the drainage when you get near the slide. The slide had running water over it everywhere and was way too slippery to walk on. So we basically curled up through the corner of the slide into the drainage against the tree line and water parked our way up to the dryer parts when we were finally able to enter back into the slide. It was truly some crazy ass adventure and I don’t think I could’ve captured it any more thoroughly than in this vlog. While editing this I was highly entertained by watching my own Vlog and that is why it is longer than usual. I kept most of the footage because I found it extremely entertaining and visually amusing. Make sure to leave a thumbs up and a comment to let me know what you thought of this vlog.
Happy Trails!
