Naoshima Art Island Travel Vlog | sightseeing, cafe hopping, museums 🎨👖✨

In this Japan travel vlog, we head to Naoshima Art Island and Kurashiki in Okayama prefecture. It's been a destination I've been meaning to visit for some time now, but it can be quite expensive to get to because of its distance from Tokyo. Raissa and I took the night bus from Tokyo station to Kurashiki the next day. From there, we grabbed breakfast nearby the historic district of Kurashiki. Having never been to Okayama before, I didn't know much about its Momotaro origin story, garden, and Kurashiki. We didn't have too much time, but we made sure to check out some Kurashiki attractions like the Oohashi House which takes you back in time due to how well preserved the house and family artifacts are. Then we went to the Ohara museum, unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take any photos inside the museum, but it turned out to be much nicer than I thought. Since we still had some time before lunch we decided to walk along the river and take in the sights - even dropping by a denim store to see what all the hype was about.

In the afternoon we took a bus and then a train to Uno Port where we'd be staying for the night. The hostel owner was fluent in English, friendly, and even invited us to a film festival he hosted at the hostel cafe. :) I highly recommend staying at his hostel (Uno Port Inn) as it's right across the pier and a convenience store. After checking in we walked to a nearby cafe called Belk which I found via Google, and it was one of the most stylish cafes we've been to. Since we had a whole day of traveling we ended it with a trip to the nearby hot spring that opened a few minutes from the hostel.

The next day we woke up bright and early and headed towards the port to catch our 8am boat to Naoshima Art Island (the highlight of our trip). Unexpectedly the boat ride barely lasted 15 minutes and it was so comfortable just seeing the different islands in the inland sea of Japan. Once we landed, we went to the red pumpkin (even before picking up our bikes hehe). I highly suggest reserving your bike even before you get to Naoshima via their websites online (like we did) since it was all taken by the time we got there.

💐about me
Hi! My name is Heidi and I live in Tokyo, Japan. 🍜
I moved to Tokyo, Japan as a Japanese language student in 2019 due to my love for the culture. Since then I've passed the JLPT N4, N3 levels, and N2 levels! Hopefully, I pass N1 in the future.
In my free time, I love exploring what Japan has to offer: from eating delicious Japanese food to learning Japanese to exploring local spots around the city I try my hand at documenting every moment of it.
Come join me!
