In this episode we experience winter in Austria with snowy mountains and winter sports, although no skiing for me!
I take the cable car up the Rax Alp and try out snow shoes for the first time. The Rax Seilbahn https://www.raxalpe.com/en is located about an hour from Vienna and is easily accessible on public transport. Guided tours are also available but the routes are well marked and you can even bring your dog! After a short trip on the cable car I donned a pair of snow shoes and with a pair of trekking poles, both hired at the top of the mountain, set off along one of the walking routes to the Höllentalaussicht, which is a view of the Höllental valley below. There are also options for camping at the location and walks along the Schwarza river.
