In 2022, FEMA obligated almost $21 billion in Public Assistance grants under 90 Presidential disaster declarations. This funding is administered under the Public Assistance program, which has no shortage of rules, regulations, and restrictions that applicants for funding must navigate to obtain and keep this vital assistance. In this panel, former FEMA General Counsel Ernie Abbott and Michelle Zaltsberg provide an overview of the Public Assistance program, share insights into how FEMA’s provision of assistance is evolving, and provide helpful tips for maximizing federal grant opportunities.
