Welcome to Chengdu, where the food is as unique as it is astonishing! Join us with my dear friend Bert at the renowned Jing Shi Lou as we dive into the world of extraordinary Chinese cuisine.
First up, we have the Xialongxia, or mantis shrimp. Watch as they pour water over the shrimp, then transfer them into sizzling hot oil. The sight alone is a spectacle! They add a flavorful mix of garlic and Sichuan sauce, thoroughly blending everything together with a splash of water and beer. The result is a simmering, mouthwatering dish that’s served hot and ready to eat.
Chengdu offers a variety of cool and unusual foods. Alongside the shrimp, we encounter a duck head on our plate. This might seem unusual, but here in Chengdu, it’s a delicacy. The head is cracked open to reveal the succulent meat and juicy brain inside. And don’t forget the spicy tongue – a true flavor explosion!
We also sample the garlic-infused variation of the mantis shrimp, adding an extra layer of spice to the dish. Plus, we enjoy some delicious spicy noodles and the intriguing 1000-year-old duck eggs, which are actually preserved for about a month, delivering a unique and gorgeous taste.
From dipping the tasty shrimp in sauce to savoring every bite of the duck head, our food adventure in Chengdu is nothing short of spectacular. This city truly is a food lover's heaven, offering an array of spicy, delicious, and unforgettable dishes. Join us as we explore and taste the wonders of Chengdu’s bizarre foods!
