eDrum nerd alert! Here’s a sample of why I choose to use my VST’s together with my Roland TD50X. In the first part of this video, I have local control turned ‘off’ inside the 50X, and you’re just hearing Superior Drummer 3. It’s the Bob Rock ‘Kit 1’from the SD3 core pack, played by itself. In the second part of the video, I turned local control ‘on’ inside my module, and I’m playing the same SD3 kit, but now you’re hearing it together with my TD50X. The TD50X kit is a Gretsch kit from Drum-Tec’s ‘Real Acoustics’ pack, but the snare and cymbals are from a Vexpression pack.
In fairness, I haven’t done any editing in SD3 as it’s still new to me. I have not taken the time to do any editing at all, while the kit inside my module has extensive editing. That said, there’s an immediacy and punch from the module that I haven’t gotten yet from SD3 or EZD3. BUT, the real sounds, dynamics and articulations inside SD3 can’t be matched by any module, IMO. Therefore, I choose to run them together for a ‘best of both worlds’ playing experience.
Take note: the snare sound is clipping as I recorded it a bit hot. Sorry about that! Things to listen for: the positional sensing on the Digital snare, the tone of those toms, and I especially love the Tom rim shot sounds (1:36 – 1:52 mark)! The kick is full and meaty, and the cymbals are warm, dark & expressive.

Hit me up with any questions or comments, and thanks for watching!
