Techniques Taught:

Split Chain

Prerequisite:

Make sure you are comfortable with creating chains and lock joins. Not required, but if you have previously tatted around a cabone ring, that skill will serve you here as well.

Supplies needed:

Two shuttles (a shuttle and ball will require you to use the ball to form stitches)

Two thread colors - I recommend size 3 or 10 as they are easiest to see when learning. I've been tatting for over a decade, and I prefer learning to tat new techniques on size 3 thread, because I can see what the technique is doing

Crochet hook for joins

Frog-stitch (retro tatting) tool (this can be a shuttle pick, small crochet hook, or other small pointy object) - it is used for undoing knots when we make mistakes

When to Use This Technique:

When you want to climb out of a round instead of cutting and tying.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
