Techniques Taught:
-Up Join
-Down Join

Prerequisite:
-Make sure you are comfortable with the basic double stitch and making picots before working on joins.

Supplies needed:
-Two Shuttles
-Two different thread colors - I recommend size 3 or 10 as they are easiest to see when learning. I've been tatting for over a decade, and I prefer learning to tat new techniques on size 3 thread, because I can see what the technique is doing.
-Scissors
-Crochet Hook
-Frog-Stitch (Retro Tatting) tool (this can be a shuttle pick, small crochet hook, or other small pointy object) - it is used for undoing knots when we make mistakes.

When to use them:
-When making joins as these are the most common joins used in patterns
-When working with two colors, use up joins when working on the front-side of your work and down joins when working on the backside of your work. -This will keep the color blips on the backside of your work.
-If only working with a single color, using down joins can give a more consistent appearance to all your picots.
