UBC is proud to present the debut of a song recently written by Oleh Vitvitskyy and composed by our conductor and artistic director, Oleh Mahlay.

"OVER IN BAKHMUT" was written to honor those enduring the hardships of the war against Ukrainian people and their cultural identity. In response, we do what we can on the cultural front to embrace, remember and share our deep Ukrainian heritage with the world.

Під замком львівським, на Личаківськім,
Лицарів військо спокій знайшло…

There’s kutia (Christmas wheat berry pudding)
On the table near the town of Hulaipole,

There’s a ray of hope in Maria’s good city (Mariupol),
It’s shining in skies over the waters of the Azov,

Beneath a castle in Lviv, among the graves at Lychakiv (cemetery)
Serenity has found the army’s bold knights…
We come singing carols for the Heroes:

In age-old Rome, little Pete from Crimea
Celebrates Christmas along with the world,
As do Yulia from Luhansk, and Nastia from Berdyansk:
Christ is Born! Let us praise Him!

And wee Olya in Ternopil
Waits for her daddy to return from the front.
She clasps tiny hands and wipes away tears:
Christ is Born! Let us praise Him!

Ukraine is our family, all - undivided,
The Armed Forces and TDF (Territorial Defense Forces)
Onward to victory under God’s righteous banner,
