In which Dr. Corey Olsen discusses Part One, Chapter 1 of JRR Tolkien's Unfinished Tales.

As we begin our discussion of Tolkien's Unfinished Tales, I start with an overview of the stories and essays published in the book, looking at how they fit into the timeline of Tolkien's life and career. Looking at the Tuor fragment in Chapter One, obviously the beginning of what was meant to be something close to a novel-length version of the Gondolin story, we look at the major themes and images that the story introduces. I pay close attention to Ulmo's appearance and his revelations to Tuor, then we look at Tuor's own role as Ulmo's messenger.
