Episode 5: Enchanting Hoi An
In Episode 5 of Dragon Tour Twenty-4, we journey further south from Danang to the enchanting city of Hoi An, renowned for its beautifully preserved Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This episode is filled with the charm of Hoi An's historic architecture, rich history, and delectable cuisine.
Hoi An is a visual feast with its blend of wooden Chinese shophouses, French colonial buildings, and ornate temples. We stroll through narrow streets lined with colourful lanterns, vibrant markets, and quaint cafés, soaking in the city's timeless atmosphere.
Our culinary adventure begins with sampling some of Hoi An's famous dishes. We take in the unique flavours of Cao Lau, a noodle dish with a distinctive smoky taste, White Rose Dumplings, delicate and translucent filled with shrimp, and Banh Xeo, crispy Vietnamese pancakes stuffed with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts, but what will be our conclusion of Hoi An’s ‘Top 3’?
A highlight of our trip is a day excursion to the serene Coconut River, where we navigate through lush water coconut groves. We then join an excellent cookery school where we learn to prepare traditional Vietnamese dishes such as Pho Bo, the iconic beef noodle soup, Beef Noodle Salad, Fresh Spring Rolls, and the beloved Banh Xeo.
Evenings in Hoi An are magical, especially at the night market along the riverside. We walk along the Thu Bon River, witnessing the thousands of lanterns that illuminate the city after sunset, creating a mesmerizing scene.
