The Wales Slate Museum, located in Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon in North Wales, is a fascinating institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of the Welsh slate industry.

Situated within the Victorian-era workshops of the Dinorwig Quarry, once one of the largest slate quarries in the world, the museum provides a vivid insight into the life and work of slate miners, the industrial processes involved, and the impact of slate on Welsh culture and communities.

Opened in 1972, the museum preserves much of the original machinery, workshops, and tools used during the peak of slate production in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can explore the fully restored foundry, forges, and the massive water-powered machinery that once powered the quarry operations. One of the highlights is the largest working waterwheel in mainland Britain, which was used to drive equipment in the quarry's workshops.

The museum also delves into the social history of the slate workers, showcasing their difficult working conditions, the rise of trade unionism, and the strong community ties formed around the quarries.
