Bohemian Switzerland (Czech Republic) borders seamlessly with Saxon Switzerland (Free State of Saxony, Germany) and is therefore part of the 700 km² Elbe Sandstone Mountains on the upper reaches of the Elbe.
This small paradise for hikers and climbers was developed for tourism in the 19th century.

A forest fire of historic proportions (the biggest fire in the history of the Czech Republic) from July 24 to August 12, 2022 put this area, which is otherwise populated with many holidaymakers, in a state of shock and emergency. Firefighting planes from Italy and Sweden, as well as helicopters from Poland and Slovakia helped the local forces to fight the fire.

The catastrophe in Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland hit local people who live directly or indirectly from tourism badly. That's why I can only appeal to all nature lovers: please visit this region - almost all hiking trails are open again.

I have published this short hiking film as an example of the beauty of Bohemian Switzerland. The starting point is the well-known small town of Jetřichovice.

Die Böhmische Schweiz (Tschechische Republik) grenzt nahtlos an die Sächsische Schweiz (Freistaat Sachsen, Deutschland) und ist damit Teil des 700 km² großen Elbsandsteingebirges am Oberlauf der Elbe. Dieses kleine Paradies für Wanderer und Kletterer wurde im 19.Jahrhundert touristisch erschlossen.

Ein Waldbrand historischen Ausmaßes ( der größte Brand in der Geschichte der Tschechischen Republik) vom 24. Juli bis 12. August 2022 versetzte dies sonst mit vielen Urlaubern bevölkerte Gegend in einen Schock- und Ausnahmezustand.
Löschflugzeuge aus Italien und Schweden, sowie Hubschrauber aus Polen und der Slowakei halfen den Einheimischen Kräften bei der Brandbekämpfung.

Die Katastrophe in der Sächsischen und Böhmischen Schweiz hat Einheimische, die direkt oder indirekt vom Tourismus leben, schwer getroffen. Deshalb kann ich nur an alle Naturfreunde appellieren: besucht bitte diese Region- fast alle Wanderwege sind wieder geöffnet.
