Ryan: Hey everybody, my name's Ryan and here at etrailer, we install, test, fit and review a lot of different parts. That way we can try to answer any questions those of you might have. That's exactly what we're doing here today on a 2021 Subaru set. We're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt class three trailer hitch receiver. So right off the bat, probably one of my favorite things about this hitch is the fact that it could be completely hidden whenever you're not using it. So whenever you are ready to use it, you can pull off this removable panel and you have super easy access.

You can plug in your accessory or hook up your trailer or whatever it is you're trying to do. Whenever you're not using it, you can take that same panel, simply just put it right back into position and there'll be a couple of push pin fasteners that you got to pop in the bottom of it as well. But once you have it like that, it's going to look completely factory and really maintain that clean Ascent look. So I know, I see these Subarus being used to do a little bit of everything and so if it we're me, I would want a hitch that'd be able to handle pretty much anything you want to throw at it. Whether you are using a cargo carrier or a bike rack, using it to tow a trailer, you're going to want something up to the task. I think this one is going to be a perfect solution for that.

Matter of fact, this is my favorite hitch available. I say that because not only do I think it looks the best, but I also think it is most capable. So one thing I really do like about this hitch is the clearance it gives us. Not only the ground clearance, since it does sit up here, it's nice and high off the ground, especially compared to the ones that sit below the bumper. That's a pretty big difference and with it being all the way up here, you really shouldn't have to worry at all about any clearance issues. Say if you're using a cargo carrier or something like that, you're not going to have to worry about it bumping into the ground or anything when you're going up a steep hill, for example.

Just as important, the bumper clearance. So what I mean by that is the end of the receiver tube opening is going to be pretty much flush with our bumper here. So if you're someone that really plans on using any folding type accessories, you shouldn't have to worry at all about any issues when you store them in that upright position. Shouldn't have to worry too much about them coming in contact with your bumper. So with this being a class three hitch, it's going to have that two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. That's a really common size and a ton of different accessories will work out with it.

It's going to have a reinforced collar for extra strength, and it's going to have that standard five, eight size pin holder. Now pining clip does not come included, but if you need one, you can grab it right here at etrailer. You're going to have plate style safety chain openings, which are actually on top of our receiver tube. So it's a little bit different and they aren't going to give us the greatest clearance. So if you have a larger hook like this, you can still get it to work, but it's a little tight, it's not super easy.So if it we're me, I would prefer maybe a hook more like this style, just a little bit easier to get it on and off. But honestly, because of the clean look, I think that trade off is well worth it. The hitch is also going to give us some really good weight ratings. As far as the maximum gross tongue weight rating goes, that's going to be 750 pounds and that's a really high number actually. That's going to be the amount of weight that's pushing down on the hitch. So you should have no issues using pretty much any size bike rack or cargo carrier that you would want to, for example. As far as the maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's going to be 5,000 pounds and that's going to be the amount of weight that's pulling on the hitch. So it is a weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it.Now this can be used with a weight distribution system, which is a separate component. If you use that, what it's going to do is help keep your trailer and your Subaru nice and level whenever you're going down the road. However, with that being said, if you do use that weight distribution system, the weight capacities are going to remain the same. Now one thing I do suggest doing is just grabbing your Subaru's owner's manual. That way you can make sure your Ascent can pull that much weight too. Now, if you do plan on doing som
