[For the first 29, these myths apply to both DID/OSDD]
1. DID doesn’t exist
2. MPD (multiple personality disorder) is still a relevant term, and is ok to use
3. DID is VERY rare and you’re unlikely to meet a system
4. Formation Misconceptions
-DID is therapy induced
-People can be born with DID
-DID only develops in people who experienced CSA, cult abuse, or tortue
-Neglect isn’t enough to cause DID
5. DID is just [insert another disorder]
6. DID can’t be comorbid with [insert anything]
-The whole system has to have / only one alter can have [insert anything] if it’s comorbid
7. DID is easy to spot / “I would know if you had DID!”
8. Alters are just ego/personality states
9. Alters are inherently evil
10. People with DID are never aware that they have alters
11. People with DID are NEVER aware of their alter’s activity [what they do when they front]
12. People with DID can’t split later in life
13. DID can be developed in adulthood
14. People with DID can’t have functional/good/fulfilling lives with DID

16. Switching Misconceptions
-Switching is instantaneous
-People with DID can always switch on command / can never switch on command
17. Alters always know when they’re going to front / Alters always know why they fronted
18. Inner World Misconceptions
-Systems always have an inner world.
-All alters in a system can access the inner world
-All alters know what they look like [in the inner world]
19. All alters have the same opinion on external people
20. Dating misconceptions
-When a system is dating, all alters participate in the romantic relationship
-Systems only date singlets / Systems only date other systems
-Alters cannot date each other [when they’re in the same system]
21. Alters can’t be family
22. All people with DID have an “original” (meaning: first alter, or ‘true’ personality)
23. The host has to be the original
24. Fictional or factional introjects are a sign of faking
25. Littles (younger alters) are the equivalent of age regression
26. Alters can die
27. Integration can occur randomly/spontaneously/without effort
28. Dormancy/Integration is equivalent to alter death
29. When an older alter and a younger alter integrate, they MUST become an age slider

OSDD Myths:
30. OSDD-1 isn’t as real/valid as DID
