Welcome to the ValorosoIT channel, the point of reference for retrocomputer and vintage electronics enthusiasts. Today we are at Varese Retrocomputing 2023, an extraordinary event that takes us back in time, to discover the world of ZX Spectrum and Sinclair. Together with us, three experts in the sector: Mario Prato, Eugenio Ciceri and Davide Barlotti. They guide us through an emotional journey into the past and reveal the present of these vintage icons.

Here is the article:

The first to speak is Mario Prato, who shows us some clones of the ZX Spectrum, including the Chrome 3, an advanced version of this clone that replicates the classic ZX Spectrum with modern components, faster CPU and more memory. They also illustrate the new sound cards for listening to sampled music, similar to the Amiga, and the interfaces for connecting floppy disks to the Spectrum, creating a connection between the past and the present.
Mario Prato presents us with a clone of Russian origin, created by himself during the lockdown, with modern logic. This machine has advanced features, including 512KB of RAM, real-time clock, overclocked CPU, and mouse.

Eugenio Ciceri guides us through the history of the Spectrum, from the ancient ZX81 to the modern ZX Spectrum Next.
The ZX Spectrum was, initially, a basic model with only 16KB of RAM, but it was loved by many enthusiasts. Later models introduced more RAM, allowing users to experiment with programming and gaming. The ZX Spectrum itself could be expanded with another 32KB of RAM, bringing it to 48K.
Eugenio Ciceri also highlights the challenges that developers of the time had to face, from "color clash" to sound limitations, demonstrating how they had to overcome these challenges to achieve amazing graphical and sound results.
He also shows us the modern ZX Spectrum Next, a project that aims to bring the Spectrum into the third millennium. This powerful computer was designed by a group of enthusiasts and offers advanced 256-color graphics and a wide range of features.

Davide Barlotti shows us an exciting experiment, created entirely with components available in the 1980s. Using a camera and a monochrome video acquisition card, Davide acquires an image, shows it on the monitor of a ZX Spectrum 48K, saves it on a floppy disk and "copies it on paper" (the print). The printer is a dot matrix printer and we can hear its characteristic sound, in an ASMR while it prints the image in black and white.

Varese Retrocomputing 2023 is a unique experience for retrocomputer lovers. It is a journey through time that demonstrated how these old computers continue to live and evolve thanks to the passion and ingenuity of enthusiasts like Eugenio, Davide and Mario. Stay tuned to @ValorosoIT for further adventures in the world of retrocomputing!
