This video is a reflection on painterly art, and drawing flowers using a painterly style. I use a reference image that includes a sunflower vase for this drawing. The video shows the full drawing process.
Artists need inspiration. I always look at artwork done by the best artists to find inspiration. Impressionist artists like Paul Cézanne and Claud Monet provide so much inspiration for me. This time, a particular painting done by Paul Cézanne called the Flowers in a Blue Vase caught my attention. The painting is amazing, with a lot of details done using a loose style. It is amazing to see how loosely done individual brush strokes finally create an amazing painting.
I do not create my drawing in the same way. I use a more simple reference. However, the reference is quite powerful as it has strong values that allow me to create a powerful drawing. I use Monte Marte oil pastel for this exercise.
I do not want to create a 'how to draw' video that provides step-by-step instructions on how to draw a vase. However, I wanted to provide a reflection on how I think about painterly art.
Here's a link to my other art vlogs.
