Well, It's been a while since my last upload, but here is the next phase in the process of making this jumbo chess set. (apologies for the poor sound quality). Turning the pawns is a good place to start when making your own chess set on the lathe. There are a total of 16 pawns to be turned, so if you need practice or need to knock off your rusty wood turning skills (and I know I do) here is where to start. In this design there are three beads to be turned, one V groove ( what I call a "cut back") one concave taper, and one turned sphere. Wow, now that I see it written out it seems way more complicated than just doing it, lol. If you are a "do it yourself" "DIY" craftsman or craftswoman you might enjoy the little tips and techniques I share. I personally think that if you are going to build your own chess board or turn your own chess pieces that "going big" (making a giant chess set) is a much better way to learn the techniques required since the tolerances will be much more forgiving of small discrepancies between sizes and such. It will also feel way more epic when you finish making your Giant Chess Set than it would if you made a small chess set or a tournament chess set (trust me).
...Anyway, without further delay... ENJOY!
