সিরাজুল ইসলাম আজাদ, চট্টগ্রামের আঞ্চলিক গানের মুকুটহীন সম্রাট। ১৯৯১ সালের ২৯ এপ্রিলের প্রলংকরী ঘূর্ণিঝড় ও জলোচ্ছাসে ধ্বংসলীলার খতিয়ান নিয়ে ‘পাষাণ দরিয়া’ নামে অবিস্মরণীয় এক ক্যাসেট বের করেছিলেন শিল্পী সিরাজুল ইসলাম আজাদ। সেই ক্যাসেটের ৮টি গানে কক্সবাজারের চকরিয়ার বদরখালী, মহেশখালী ও কুতুবদিয়ায় নিজের চোখে দেখা ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের তাণ্ডবলীলার বাস্তব চিত্র ফুটে উঠেছিল। ঘূর্ণিঝড় ও জলোচ্ছ্বাসে বিধ্বস্থ যখন মানবতা, ঊপকূলীয় এলাকার কোটি মানুষ যখন স্বজন হারানোর মর্মন্তুদ ব্যথায় কাতর তখন কালজয়ী কিছু কথা ও সুরের মালা গেঁথে সর্বহারা মানুষের পাশে দাঁড়িয়েছিলেন শিল্পী সিরাজ। সাধারণ ৫৪৩ টেপ রেকর্ডারে রেকর্ড করা সেই ক্যাসেট চট্টগ্রামে ক্যাসেট বিক্রির অতীত সব ইতিহাস ভেঙ্গে দিয়েছিল, আর সিরাজ হয়ে উঠেছিলেন গণমানুষের প্রাণের শিল্পী।
সিরাজুল ইসলাম আজাদ চকরিয়ার বদরখালী গ্রামের কৃতি সন্তান। আশির দশকে সিরাজুল আজাদের উত্থান চকরিয়া ও কক্সবাজার অঞ্চলে আঞ্চলিক গান গেয়ে। তার সংগীতগুরু হলেন খ্যাতিমান সংগীতজ্ঞ রশিদ কাওয়াল ও আহমদ কবির আজাদ।
আশি ও নব্বইয়ের দশকে সিরাজুল ইসলাম আজাদ দক্ষিণ চট্টগ্রামের আঞ্চলিক গানের সম্রাট হিসাবে পরিচিত ছিলেন। সংগীত জীবনের একটি বড় সময় তিনি মঞ্চে গান গেয়ে লাখ লাখ শ্রোতার মন কেড়ে নেন। ১৯৯১ সালে প্রলয়ংকরী ঘূর্ণিঝড়ের পর সিরাজুল ইসলাম আজাদ সাধারণ ৫৪৩ টুইনওয়ানে রেকর্ড করে 'পাষাণ দরিয়া' নামে একটি ক্যাসেট বাজারে ছাড়েন। সেই ক্যাসেটটি চট্টগ্রামের সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় ক্যাসেটের একটি। চকরিয়ার সাধারণ একটি ক্যাসেট প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে বের হওয়া 'পাষাণ দরিয়া' অ্যালবামের গানগুলো যেন উপকূলীয় অঞ্চলের মানুষের জীবনের প্রতিচ্ছবি।
২০০২ সালে চট্টগ্রামের প্রযোজনা প্রতিষ্ঠান আমিন স্টোর থেকে সিরাজুল ইসলাম আজাদের 'হেডমাস্টর' অ্যালবাম বের হলে সেটিও সুপারডুপার হিট হয়। এই ক্যাসেটটি চট্টগ্রামের অতীত সব রেকর্ড ভঙ্গ করে। 'ও মামুরে হেডমাস্টরে তোঁয়ারে তোয়ার' গানটি মানুষের মুখে মুখে ফেরে। সিরাজের খ্যাতি চট্টগ্রাম ছাড়িয়ে সারা দেশে এমনকি বিশ্বের নানা প্রান্তে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। তখন কালজয়ী শ্যামসুন্দর বৈষ্ণবের মতোই সিরাজকে চট্টগ্রামের আঞ্চলিক গানের নতুন সম্রাট হিসাবে আখ্যা দেওয়া হয়। সিরাজুল ইসলাম আজাদ হলেন জীবনমুখী আঞ্চলিক গানের দিকপাল। সিরাজের 'পরীক্ষা', 'চেয়ারম্যান সাব' ও রাক্ষুসি দরিয়া' অ্যালবামগুলিও সুপারহিট হয়।

Artist Sirajul Islam Azad released an unforgettable cassette titled 'Pashan Darya' on April 29, 1991 with the record of the devastating cyclone and tidal wave. The 8 songs of that cassette showed the real picture of the cyclone violence in Badarkhali, Maheshkhali and Kutubdia of Chakriya in Cox's Bazar. Artist Siraj stood by the side of the proletariat with a series of timeless words and melodies when humanity was devastated by cyclones and tidal waves and millions of people in the coastal areas were in agony of losing relatives. Recorded on a typical 543 tape recorder, the cassette shattered the history of cassette sales in Chittagong, and Siraj became the artist of the people's life.He is the son of Kriti of Badarkhali village of Chakriya. The rise of Sirajul Azad in the eighties led to the singing of regional songs in the Chakaria and Cox's Bazar areas. His music gurus are renowned musicians Rashid Kawal and Ahmad Kabir Azad.
In the eighties and nineties, Sirajul Islam Azad was known as the emperor of regional music in South Chittagong. A great time in his musical life, he captivated millions of listeners by singing on stage.
