I knew that I wanted to build a cradle for my son to use when he was born, but as with so many projects, I put it off until it was almost too late. Finally, about a couple weeks before he was born, I began to hurriedly work on building the cradle to try to get it done before he was born. This video is the story of the cradle build, the birth of my son, and why it took so long to get the video done.

I designed the cradle myself. I was trying to come up with something that was a bit different than the usual woodworking project, and that could be taken apart for storage when we were done using it. The cradle is built from a 3/4", 4' x 8' sheet of Maple plywood.

If you are wondering how I got all the crib gaps spaced and cut the same, I first cut the hole pattern into a scrap piece of wood and used that as a template when laying out the design on the wood. That method seemed to work pretty well.
One thing I wish I would have done a little differently, is lightly sanding the plywood before painting. The plywood was a finish sealed variety, so the paint did not take as well as I would have liked on its smooth surface, especially since I was in a hurry and did not give it enough time to completely dry.
