St. Thomas is the next port--of-call in our video series that cruises through the Caribbean aboard the Norwegian Sky. We share with you the highlights of our visit as we explore the island of St. Thomas.
The first location is Megans Bay, considered to be one of the world's best beaches with its clear water and white sands. It's a great beach to chill out for a couple of hours with very calm waters ready for you to take a dip in to cool off.
On our way back we stop by Drake's Seat, overlooking Megans Bay to get a bird's eye view and a few photos.
The final stop of the van is the Sky Tram up to Paradise Point overlooking the
bay and the cruise ship terminals. On top of the hills overlooking St. Thomas are shops, food and drinks. The world famous Bushwackers Bailey's smoothie and banana daiquiri are not to be passed up to enjoy while sitting outside overlooking the bay.
Last stop before heading back to the cruise ship, we pay a visit to Leatherback Brewing. We enjoy some beers during happy hour and cooled off in the air conditioning.

The island of St. Thomas, located in the U.S. Virgin Islands, has a rich and diverse history, shaped by various European colonial powers, African influences, and its strategic location in the Caribbean.

Before European contact, St. Thomas was inhabited by indigenous peoples, including the Ciboney, Arawak, and Carib peoples. These groups lived off the land, fishing, and farming, and their cultures were closely connected to the sea.

In 1917, The United States purchased St. Thomas, along with St. John and St. Croix, from Denmark for $25 million in gold. The acquisition was motivated by the strategic importance of the islands, particularly during World War I. The islands became known as the U.S. Virgin Islands.

St. Thomas evolved into a key hub for tourism, thanks to its natural beauty, beaches, and historic sites. The island became a popular destination for cruise ships and visitors from around the world.

Charlotte Amalie remains the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands and is known for its well-preserved colonial architecture, vibrant culture, and duty-free shopping.

St. Thomas' history reflects a blend of indigenous, European, and African influences, which have all contributed to the island’s unique cultural heritage.

Please join us as we go rambling around our next 30 years while living our “work hard, play hard” philosophy. We will try to show as much of our adventures, tips and reviews as we can through our journey practicing for retirement.

This channel will be about adventures big and small, weekend getaways traveling in the motorhome exploring our region to flying away on extended vacations discovering new destinations. We hope to inspire others to make time to travel, explore and discover what our land has to offer.
