Captain Wingnut shows you how he refills 1lb propane bottles.
If you try this at home, Use Your Common Sense and Think about what you’re doing.
This gas is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE.
If you’re not sure of yourself DON’T DO IT

Living in the mountains far from civilization we have to re-use and re-cycle as much as possible and it helps the wallet too.

This is the safest way I know to refill these little bottles.

NOTE: THE ADAPTER WILL ALLOW PROPANE GAS TO ESCAPE IF THE VALVE IS TURNED ON AND A 1LB BOTTLE IS NOT ATTACHED...

USE COMMON SENSE

Do not teach your young children this... you're just asking for trouble as the adapter will allow gas to come out uncontrolled without a 1lb bottle attached.

Remember, your job as a parent,,, is to parent,,, that means teach good ethics, manners and common sense.
Don't raise stupid children and set them loose on society.

You can buy the adapters at many hardware stores and online shopping.
They're called REFILL ADAPTERS FOR 1 POUND (1LB) PROPANE TANKS

FILLING
If you can Pre-Freeze the little 1lb bottles for about 20 minutes prior to putting them on the bigger propane filler bottle, they will fill much faster.

I put them on in the morning and take them off at night, then put one on and leave it overnight and take it off in the morning.

1. Install the adapter on the large master 5 to 20 gallon propane bottle
2. With the master bottle (tank) standing upwards, screw the 1lb bottle (tank) onto the adapter.
3. Turn the master propane tank upside down
4. Open the valve on the master tank
5. Check for any leaks
6. Leave for a few hours to overnight
7. When ready, turn on the master tank valve
8. Turn the master tank with the 1lb tank attached upright
8. Quickly unscrew the 1lb bottle
10. Use window cleaner or soapy water to check the 1lb bottle for any leaks.
NOTE: if the bottle has a leak, set it aside in a secluded area where no sparks or flames will be present and let it leak its gas out. DO NOT PUT IT IN THE TRASH UNTIL IT IS EMPTY, it can catch fire and/or blow up.
11. REPEAT

SAFETY:
DO NOT pull the Schrader valve to let some gas pressure out.
I know there are a lot of videos telling you to do that but...
This is not necessary and you can easily compromise the Schrader valve causing a permanent gas leak, ultimately causing you to throw the 1lb bottle and any gas you put back into it AWAY and every bit of gas that leaks out while you’re filling it.
Now THAT IS NOT SAVING......IT'S JUST PLAIN WASTEFUL
