On May 12th at Sakarya University in Turkey, Vera Herold and Neva Cerantola gave a presentation on behalf of Cinemateca Portuguesa about CinEd and film education in Portugal, in the context of the 8th Sakarya International Short Film Festival. Sakarya University is included as Associated Partner in the proposal for CinEd 2.1. Sakarya University has a vibrant department dedicated to the study of film and media that offers various interdisciplinary programmes that link it with culture, communication, and education. This collaboration will allow us to make the CinEd collection and pedagogy known and available outside the EU, thus contributing to the dissemination of European films in a cultural environment that is a meeting point between West and East.

CinEd digital platform, created to develop film education among early age groups and to support film culture and the audio-visual industry, is a European cooperation project co-financed since 2015 by the European Union’s Creative Europe / MEDIA program “Support for Film Education”. The aim of the project, which will be renewed in September 2022 and will last for 2 years, and of which Sakarya University is one of the partners, is to help young people between the ages of 6 and 19 discover European cinema. Vera Herold, the project coordinator of the Portuguese Cinema Archive and Museum, and Neva Cerantola from the pedagogical film education department shared their experiences with cinema lovers at the seminar jointly organized by Sakarya Short Film Festival and Turkish Film Research Magazine on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. In the seminar event which was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr Serhat Yetimova, the aims of the project and the targeted outputs were shared, and the journey and features of the CinEd project so far were discussed in all its dimensions. In the event, in which a question-answer interaction method with the audience was effective, a workshop was also carried out to provide a clearer understanding of the methods and contents applied in the CinEd project. In the project, which is planned to last for two years, The Sakarya University will take part in the creation of the Turkish versions of the original pedagogical contents previously produced within the scope of the project, together with the web page designed within the scope of CinEd project, and will benefit from the pedagogical contents of the CinEd catalogue. Thus Sakarya University will contribute to the development of visual cultural skills in the early ages of the national education system in Turkey.
