I review the Chevy Silverado 1500 with the 6.2L V8 L87 Engine when towing through the Appalachian Mountains, while comparing to the F150 3.5L Ecoboost engine. I go over engine specs, engine performance, fuel economy, acceleration and much more to find out if the big displacement 6.2L V8 the best Engine for Towing or is the TurboCharged 3.5L ecoboost the better Towing engine.

We have the big dog engine from GM the 6.2L V8 in this very nice looking chevy silverado high country truck. Today we are looking at towing performance and the 3.5L ecoboost is the crown of towing on my 120 miles towing loop through the mountains.

The 6.2L V8 is the most powerful V8 engine in the 1500 segment and I was hoping the naturally asperated power would give the twin turbo chaged EcoBoost engine a run for its money.

overall the Ecoboost was a better performing engine. being able to accelerate faster with my 8,000lbs trailer and being able to control the RPMs on long mountains climbs better then the larger 6.2L V8 in the chevy 1500.

But the 6.2L was not far off and I would say the 6.2L was actually a much better well rounded engine. because the 3.5L was had the worst fuel economy where the 6.2L V8 despite being almost twice the displacement size was way more fuel efficient almost 25% more fuel efficient.

also the transmission temp was much cooler on the 6.2L V8 engine which is great for towing.

Overall if you want the best towing none turbo charged engine in the 1500 truck segment the 6.2L engine in the GM trucks is the best option.
