伊東豊雄は、長野県出身の建築家。東京大学卒業後、菊竹清訓建築設計事務所に勤務し、大阪万博等に携わった。1971年アーバンロボット設立（独立）。建築界のノーベル賞と呼ばれているプリツカー賞を日本人では丹下健三、槇文彦、安藤忠雄、妹島和世・西沢立衛（SANAA）に次いで2013年に受賞した。代表作は「シルバーハット」、「せんだいメディアテーク」、「多摩美術大学図書館」など。「まつもと市民芸術館」は日本では比較的珍しい4層のバルコニー席を備える馬蹄形の主ホール備える。客席数750〜1,800に可変するホール、客席数288の小ホール、360席の実験劇場など幅広い演出に対応している。

Toyo Ito is an architect from Nagano Prefecture. After graduating from the University of Tokyo, he worked at Kikutake Kiyonori Architects and was involved in the Osaka Expo. In 1971, he founded Urban Robot (independent). In 2013, he won the Pritzker Prize, known as the Nobel Prize of architecture, following other Japanese recipients such as Kenzo Tange, Fumihiko Maki, Tadao Ando, ​​Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa (SANAA). His representative works include the Silver Hat, Sendai Mediatheque, and Tama Art University Library. Matsumoto Civic Performing Arts Center has a horseshoe-shaped main hall with four tiers of balcony seating, which is relatively rare in Japan. It can accommodate a wide range of performances, including a hall with a capacity of 750 to 1,800, a small hall with 288 seats, and an experimental theater with 360 seats.
