Yu You Ren, a great educator and master of calligraphy. He loves his country and people. He promoted the cursive style calligraphy through his life. He has founded Fudan University, Shanghai University, Weibei Normal University, and National Northwest Agriculture and Forestry College and more.
He once served as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport, the President of the Audit Yuan, and the President of the Control Yuan from 1931 to 1964, a total of 33 years.
Yu You Ren helped poor soldiers and civilians throughout his life.
His monthly salary, often used up on assisting the poor people. In several cases, he even got loans from his next month paycheck for helping people.
He always supports the young artists or calligraphers.
For promoting Chinese calligraphy and cursive calligraphy,
he was always free of charge for people’s requests for his calligraphy. Therefore, he has donated more than 1 billion of US$ to the people in Taiwan.
Master Painter Au Ho-Nien praised him as “Yu You Ren is the most outstanding hero in five hundred years. Who can be better than Yu in Calligraphy and in the noble moral character?”
