Why No More Heroes 2 is Almost a Perfect Sequel

Since No More Heroes 3 is on Switch, I thought that it would be fitting to look at why No More Heroes 2 is almost a perfect sequel. I say almost because No More Heroes 2 does a better job at being a sequel compared to most other video game successors, but has a few shortcomings that make it fall from greatness. That being said, it's still a phenomenal game and certainly one of the best video game sequels of all time.

When No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle was first released, despite its positive reception, it didn't receive the same love as the first game. Some loved it more than the original for how distinctly different it was, but other people weren't too keen on that. Admittedly, when compared to its predecessor, No More Heroes 2 changed so much and felt too ambitious given the weaker performance on the Nintendo Wii. However, following the release of the No More Heroes 2 Switch port, I feel like its attributes and ambitions can be recognized much better in spite of its other flaws. Not to mention that with No More Heroes 3 coming out on all other platforms, it should be worth remembering what this game tried to do.
