The Indonesia Rupiah was created after the country's Independence from the Dutch. The first series of Rupiah was released in 1946. The higher denomination banknotes featured an image of Sukarno, the first president of Indonesia. You can still find his portrait on the modern 100,000 Rupiah and previous series of banknotes. After the first release of Indonesian banknotes, the country started suffering from economic hyperinflation. Eventually the currency series was revalued with new larger denomination banknotes. The current series of Rupiah range from 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, 20000, 50000 and 100,000 banknotes. In addition, a new commemorative 75,000 Rupiah was just released this year. It celebrates Indonesia’s 75 years of independence from the Dutch and the countries accomplishments during the past 75 years.
