At the Saint Louis Art Museum, Sun Xun’s film “Time Spy” brings woodcuts to life in a 3D animation that seeks to bridge the old and the new and the east and the west. Sun Xun’s experience growing up in an increasingly globalized China come together in the short to examine the concept of change using a dream-like surrealism. The art of woodcuts and woodblock printing originated in China as early as 220 A.D. The Saint Louis Art Museum has combined the film with a showcase of the woodcuts used in its creation, along with prints from Albrecht Dürer handpicked by Xun as a source of personal inspiration. The exhibition will run through August 12, 2018.
