Enjoy a special lecture with NHA Chief Curator & Obed Macy Research Chair, Michael R. Harrison as he highlights this summer’s featured exhibition, Summer on Nantucket: A History of the Island Resort.

Containing more than 200 artifacts from the NHA collection, this exhibition tells the story of Nantucket as a summer destination, from the opening of the first tourist hotels in the 1840s to the multi-billion-dollar real-estate, construction, and rental economy of today. Michael R. Harrison has held curatorial positions at the National Building Museum, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, and the Glasgow Museum of Transport. He is the author of numerous books and articles, as well as nearly seventy historical reports on maritime, architectural, and engineering topics for U.S. National Park Service’s Heritage Documentation Programs. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and holds a master’s degree in museum studies from the George Washington University.

This presentation is part of the Nantucket Historical Association's Food for Thought Lecture Series at the Nantucket Whaling Museum.
