17.01.2023 - A57 near Cologne, Germany - Massive collision on the end of the traffic jam

On Tuesday, a heavy traffic accident on the A57 near Cologne, Germany involving five vehicles caused four injured people. The driver of a romanian semi truck crashed into the back of a BMW 1 series at the end of a traffic jam. The Volvo truck pushed the BMW into a Ford Transit car transporter, before the truck crashed into the back of another truck in the left lane. A Dacia Sandero, which was loaded on the car transporter, dropped from the plattform behind the guardrail. Firefighters had to use heavy technical equipment to free the driver of the Ford Transit. He, and the BMW driver, were severely injured. Both truck drivers were slightly injured. One of the victims was transported by helicopter to a hospital.

The collision investigation team (German: Verkehrsunfallaufnahmeteam / VU-Team) secured the evidence on the scene.

The recovery and the cleaning lasted into the night.
