VN24 - 10.03.2022 - Anröchte A44 / Germany - (Part 1/2) In the morning, there was a serious traffic accident on the A44 freeway westbound towards Dortmund. The accident involved a total of four trucks and one car. According to previous findings, a 54-year-old from Hungary was traveling with his fully loaded tractor-trailer at 07:27 on the right lane. Between the Geseke junction and the Erwitte/Anröchte intersection, traffic was at a standstill because an accident had already occurred there at around 04:06 hours. The directional lane was reduced to one lane due to the ongoing work at this location. The driver obviously overlooked the resulting tailback and, shortly after the 'Berge' rest area, hit the truck of a 35-year-old from Bulgaria without braking. Due to the force of the collision, this tractor-trailer collided with the truck of a 43-year-old from Ukraine, which was then pushed onto the truck of a 54-year-old Dutchman. In the first collision, the car of a 56-year-old from Paderborn, which was on the left lane, was also pressed against the central crash barrier. The driver allegedly responsible for the accident was trapped in his cab and had to be rescued by the fire department. The Dortmund lane was completely closed until well into the afternoon. A large part of the load, consisting of many coils of copper cable, broke through the front and side walls of the trailer and spread across the carriageway and into the adjacent woodland, requiring extensive recovery operations.
