In a surprising turn of events, US President Joe Biden has withdrawn his candidacy for the presidential election in November. This has led to broad support for Vice President Kamala Harris within the Democratic Party. High-ranking politicians such as California Governor Gavin Newsom and former President Bill Clinton spoke out in favor of Harris. Within a few hours, she had collected millions in campaign donations.

Biden declared it was in the “best interests of the party and the country” not to seek re-election and focused on finishing his term.
